CNC Lathe Machinist Houston, TX 77092

 Perform set up and operation of CNC machinery (mill/lathe) in order to prepare metallic and non-metallic parts required in the production of inflatable packers and downhole tools or other products offered to customers and other clients. This position is a temp to hire, 2nd shift, paying $20.00/hr. - $29.00/hr, depending on experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Review blueprints, drawings, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of part/product, sequence of operations and/or set up requirements.
  • Identify, produce and gauge a variety of straight and taper threads, including Acme and buttress (does not apply to mill positions).
  • Measure, mark and otherwise indicate the dimensions and reference points on the part or material to be used as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Select, align and secure the holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines to include mills, lathes and grinders.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate various machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow and depth and angle of cut.
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect any malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust the machine controls or control media as necessary.
  • Verify conformance of finished part to ensure that it meets specifications.
  • Confer with production personnel, engineers or others to resolve machining or assembly issues.
  • Perform daily maintenance duties and/or notify supervisor of any equipment-related issues that may require attention.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Requires one-year certificate from college or technical school or minimum of five years
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write and/or complete routine reports.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to work under a minimum of supervision. Ability to read and understand engineering drawings as they pertain to machining of inflatable packers or related downhole tools. Must have own tools adequate to perform job.
