Shop Supervisor needed for a company that through its substantial fleet of land-based drilling rigs, provides comprehensive drilling solutions to major and independent oil and gas companies.

This opportunity is a DIRECT HIRE role, paying $80K-$100K/YR, depending on experience. MUST be bilingual in English and Spanish.

The position reports to the Houston Fabrication Shop Manager and is tasked with leading the overall quality of the Fabrication Shop and all items that are manufactured under the Fabrication Shop supervision. This individual will manage the successful compliance of the quality system to ensure the manufacturing of the highest quality products at the lowest possible costs, also focus on continuous improvement of the quality program. He or she will coach and support all shop personnel in the deployment of the Company Quality Management System (QMS) to deliver and sustain results of our key performance indicators (KPI s).


Responsibilities:

  • Exercise quality control duties throughout the fabrication shop and any quality needs related to products manufactured by the fabrication shop
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of all documentation that moves around the shop
  • Help HSE personnel in any Quality and Safety Assessments and HSE Audits
  • Practice and enforce product traceability. Prepare and establish quality control plans for current work orders in the shop
  • Monitor Quality of parts being used in fabrication from raw materials to finished products. Monitor all equipment and tools used for fabrication and general shop environment to make sure all equipment is calibrated correctly, current and properly certified. Monitor all jobs daily for quality and accuracy per the drawings/spec assigned to that job
  • Review Mill Test Reports (MTR s) for verification that they meet or exceed the current book of standards per the QMS and/or Manager written requests, Create and manage calibration and verification program, Create and manage the Welder Continuity Log and audit regularly.
  • Perform visual weld examination per codes on all fabricated products as required. Perform and certify examination of Fitter and Welder test for pre-employment and new certifications, and complete the report and findings per procedure
  • Review Welding Procedures and monitor that they are being followed on the shop floor, also report any needs to modify to better suit the Company or codes.
  • Document all Non Compliance through non-conformance reports (NCR) to Manager and be able to present a report as needed
  • Participate in internal and external quality audits
  • Analyze the Company product specifications to help establish efficient, cost effective requirements for ease of manufacture and reproducibility alongside of Manager and Shop Supervisor
  • Perform dimensional inspection on in process products
  • Perform weld inspections on in process products
  • Responsible for coordinating daily NDE technicians, creating a weld map, items to be tested and that NDE is performed to the applicable Company and code requirements
  • Signing off on all paperwork once shop labor is complete on jobs/tasks to finalize the job/task required by Manager
  • Perform problem solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvements
  • Manage quality control personnel/helpers on a daily basis if any are assigned to you

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 7+ years relevant work experience, quality control in fabrication of large steel manufacturing
  • 3+ years of experience is a supervisory or leadership position
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Level II NDT certificate in Magnetic Particle Testing
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times
  • Must be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days; and occasionally nights, weekends and holidays and be on call after hours as needed
  • Certifications
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) according to AWS D1.1
  • Technical training or advanced education in a relevant vocational field
  • Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver s license and be eligible to drive
  • Company vehicle including ability to meet requirements of Company s Vehicle Use. Agreement and Driving Policy
  • Must have good knowledge of welding codes, example AWS and ASME
  • Proven ability to successfully manage cross functional teams, and implement improvement within an established time frame, then sustain process improvements
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills and organization skills; must be able to prepare and deliver presentations regarding project results. High energy, data driven, and results oriented. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously to meet challenging deadlines
  • Demonstrate clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to promptly give, and follow directions when working with others.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with industry and quality standards (ISO, API, OSHA, AWS, ASQ)
  • Strong computer skills within MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to learn and operate within the shop floor control and/or ERP software
  • Ability to safely navigate the yard and shop work sites with occasional walking,climbing, standing, stepping, etc. during normal operating conditions (day/night, outdoor hot/cold weather).
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces. Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during manufacturing in the shop and operational work areas
  • Listen for unusual noises that signify equipment and or machinery problems. Stay alert and focused including during occasional extended work periods. Maintain spatial orientation and awareness to safely move around work environment with many moving objects including overhead machinery
