The Fabrication Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all activities of the Houston Fabrication shop. Responsibilities include instructing skilled and semi-skilled employees in performing their assigned work performing various manufacturing, maintenance and repair work on oilfield drilling equipment in a shop environment; monitoring completion of work; ensuring that necessary equipment and personnel are assigned to the job and monitoring high-risk activities to ensure safety practices are followed.


Responsibilities:

  • Exercise supervisory duties such as training, disciplining and recognizing extraordinary performances by subordinates
  • Ensure efficient maintenance of the Fabrication Shop by keeping all machine/tools properly certified and calibrated and conducting daily inspections to ensure the safe and cleanly appearance of the fabrication shop
  • Meet and/or exceed company metrics including Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery
  • Read and interpret drawings allowing manufacturing to build to the design intent
  • Monitor raw materials and all shop supplies to ensure material is ready when required
  • Manage all incoming items for fabrication shop such as, raw materials, components, parts, hardware, etc.
  • Monitor, report, and maintain an appropriate level of spare and replacement parts inventory to support shop operations in tool room and supply room
  • Coordinate parts and equipment delivery for shop and any third party contractors
  • Provide timely reports on all shop projects and repairs with estimated completion time(s)
  • Provide expected delivery times on all items being fabricated and repaired that the fabrication shop is managing
  • Coordinate the proper utilization of third party contractors and service through the Fabrication Manager
  • Supervise shop maintenance personnel on a daily basis to provide work order assignments and required materials for job completion to maintain a minimal work order backlog
  • Supervise fabrication personnel quality of life issues and third party utilization
  • Ensure fabrication personnel are performing all actions in accordance with Company standards to include safety, conduct, and proper use of company resources
  • Schedule and instruct technical training related to operational and technical maintenance levels
  • Identify training needs required in the shop operations and assist in developing training material as needed
  • Ensure competency of technicians performing any third party services such as Non Destructive Examination (NDE) and others

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in fabrication of heavy steel items
  • 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership position
  • Must have and maintain a valid state-issued driver s license and be eligible to drive Company vehicle including ability to meet requirements of Company s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy
  • Bilingual English and Spanish
  • Technical training or advanced education in a relevant vocational field
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic service background
  • Welding Inspection background
  • Knowledge and experience fabricating multiple types of structures, tanks, and other oilfield equipment
  • Knowledge and familiarity with industry and quality standards (ISO, API, OSHA, AWS, ASQ, ASME)
  • Knowledge of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
  • Ability to read and follow Welding Procedures
  • Strong computer skills within MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively lead, manage, and develop fabricators and other staff to drive individual performance goals and ensure overall performance aligns with Company standards
  • Ability to lead by example and be a good mentor to junior employees. Ability to create a safe environment and respond to emergency situations
  • Maintain professional demeanor in all situations and with excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills and the ability to work effectively with executives, employees at all levels, and third parties
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to be resourceful and proactive in dealing with issues that may arise
  • Ability to conduct and lead Daily Pre-Tour Meetings in English and Spanish
  • Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during manufacturing in the shop and operational work areas
  • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times
  • Stay alert and remain focused even during occasional extended work periods
  • Demonstrate clear communication skills and ability to promptly give, and follow directions
  • Must be willing to work extended schedules that will include working days; and occasionally nights, weekends and holidays and be on call after hours as needed
