Position Summary
The Controls Engineer Lead is responsible for providing technical direction and oversight for industrial power and control systems supporting company's integrated outdoor automation and energy solutions. This role guides electrical system architecture and ensures that all designs meet company standards for safety, compliance, manufacturability, and performance. The Controls Engineer Lead oversees day-to-day engineering priorities, reviews deliverables, and supports team development.
Key Responsibilities
ï‚· Lead and direct the electrical engineering team, ensuring priorities, workloads, and deadlines are clearly defined and met.
ï‚· Serve as an SME for electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and system documentation prior to production release.
ï‚· Develop and design control panel layouts and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD Electrical; oversee panel build support and design documentation.
ï‚· Design and integrate industrial automation systems, solar power systems, UPS systems, and battery backup solutions.
ï‚· Perform electrical load calculations, power distribution analysis, and system validation testing.
ï‚· Guide electrical system architecture and technical direction across projects to ensure alignment with company standards and long-term product strategy.
ï‚· Establish and enforce electrical design standards, documentation practices, and quality control procedures.
ï‚· Oversee and validate electrical system designs executed by internal engineers and external partners, ensuring compliance with NEC, UL, and internal engineering standards.
ï‚· Lead and direct external engineering consultants and contract design partners, including scope definition, quality review, and performance expectations.
ï‚· Partner with mechanical engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of electrical and mechanical systems within final products.
ï‚· Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure design-for-manufacturability principles and efficient production workflows.
ï‚· Identify technical risks and escalate major issues to the Director of Engineering as appropriate.
ï‚· Mentor and develop electrical engineering team members to strengthen technical competency and execution.
ï‚· Support complex troubleshooting, commissioning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
ï‚· May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
ï‚· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
ï‚· Minimum of 7 years of electrical engineering experience in industrial power, control systems, or system integration environments.
ï‚· An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
ï‚· Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical required.
ï‚· Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or technical workstreams.
ï‚· Proven experience managing external engineering consultants or contract design organizations.
ï‚· Strong expertise in industrial power and control systems.
ï‚· Advanced experience in control panel design and assembly documentation.
ï‚· Strong understanding of NEC, UL, and industrial electrical standards.
ï‚· Ability to review, critique, and elevate complex electrical designs.
ï‚· Strong organizational and leadership skills.
ï‚· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
ï‚· Ability to stand and walk within manufacturing environments as needed.
ï‚· Ability to occasionally lift or move materials up to 25 pounds.
ï‚· Occasional travel may be required to support field validation or customer engagement.
