SUMMARY:
The Ink Technician is responsible for mixing, matching, and maintaining inks to ensure consistent color quality and press performance. This role supports press operators and production staff by preparing inks according to specifications and maintaining ink inventory and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mix and prepare inks to match color standards, customer proofs, or production specifications.
Maintain accurate ink formulations and color match documentation.
Conduct drawdowns and color tests using spectrophotometers or densitometers as needed.
Maintain proper viscosity, pH, and temperature of inks during press runs.
Manage inventory of inks, additives, solvents, and related supplies.
Clean, label, and store inks in compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
Assist with press-side color adjustments and troubleshooting ink-related issues.
Ensure compliance with company quality control and safety procedures.
Coordinate with the purchasing department for ordering ink and supplies.
Collaborate with press operators, prepress staff, and customer service to ensure color accuracy.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in printing or ink technology preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a printing environment or ink lab (flexo, offset, screen, or digital ink experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of ink properties, substrates, and printing processes.
Familiarity with color matching systems (e.g., Pantone Matching System) and color measurement tools.
Ability to distinguish and match colors accurately.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.
