CNC Lathe Machinist

Duration: 3-month project with potential for temp-to-hire
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Machinist with strong Mastercam programming experience to support a 3-month project with the potential to become a full-time role. This position requires hands-on expertise programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes while ensuring high-quality machining and adherence to production standards.
Responsibilities
- Create efficient and accurate CNC Lathe programs using Mastercam based on blueprints, CAD models, and job specifications.
- Set up and operate CNC Lathe machines, ensuring proper material loading and machine configuration.
- Configure tool registers and apply offsets/compensations according to job requirements.
- Interpret technical drawings and blueprints to guide machining operations.
- Perform detailed inspections using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
- Verify machine settings and ensure parts meet quality and tolerance specifications.
- Design and build custom fixtures to support efficient and precise machining.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, work holding, fixtures, and machining parameters for production needs.
- Conduct routine maintenance and ensure machines remain calibrated and safe to operate.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or machining process issues.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when operating machinery and handling materials.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support production and business needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of Mastercam programming experience for CNC Lathes.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on CNC Lathe setup and operation experience.
- Experience machining metals including:
- 300 Series Stainless Steel
- Nitronic 6
- PH Stainless Steels (15-5, 17-4)
- Aluminum
- Bronze
- MP35N
- Inconel
Requirements
- Strong understanding of CNC G-code and M-code programming.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and machining specifications.
- Knowledge of metal machining properties, tooling, and cutting parameters.
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, indicators, and gauges.
- Experience working with tight tolerances and surface finish requirements.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and maintain production workflow.
- Strong shop math and mechanical aptitude related to CNC lathe operations.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
