Job Summary:
The Industrial Sewing Machine Operator I plays a key role in producing high-quality vehicle accessories by operating industrial sewing and serging machines in a manufacturing environment. Under the guidance of a designated manager or supervisor, this role ensures efficient production while meeting customer demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Surge pre-cut patterns and sew pieces together to form complete parts/mats.
- Operate industrial sewing and serging machines in a manufacturing setting.
- Measure and cut canvas according to specifications.
- Operate production equipment, handheld tools, and hardware as needed.
- Accurately use a tape measure for precise cutting and assembly.
- Handle, position, and move materials throughout the sewing and manufacturing process.
- Support additional manufacturing activities as required.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain timely, consistent, and predictable attendance to support production schedules.
- Work safely by following all safety rules, keeping a clean and organized work area, using tools and equipment properly, and wearing required personal protective equipment. Report all accidents immediately.
- Meet and exceed productivity and quality requirements in manufacturing operations.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, job instructions, and safety regulations.
- Properly maintain and safeguard shop tools and equipment.
- Guide parts under the needle, ensuring proper alignment using machine guides, seam edges, or markings on parts.
- Perform industrial sewing, including topstitching, to meet production standards.
- Assist the team leader with training new or existing employees as needed.
- Sew according to Production Samples and Product Guides, carefully monitoring stitching for defects.
- Cut and organize sewing materials such as binding, webbing, cord, tape, or thread according to specific work order specifications and color requirements.
- Maintain raw materials and remove excess thread or fabric as needed.
- Inspect products during production to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Exhibit strong attention to detail, both visually and in written instructions.
- Verify completed work to ensure it meets quality and production standards.
- Follow all company policies and maintain compliance and guidelines.
- Handle consumer and customer data responsibly, ensuring compliance with privacy policies and procedures.
- Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support production and operational goals.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Three to five years of industrial sewing experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
