Inventory Analyst
Temp to Hire
Hours: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Pay: $52K - $70K annually (depending on experience)
Position Summary
The Inventory Analyst is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on inventory-related data to support accurate costing, forecasting, and operational efficiency. This role partners closely with Accounting, Purchasing, Production, and Operations teams to ensure inventory accuracy, proper valuation, and strong internal controls. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced in inventory accounting within a manufacturing or distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory & Cost Analysis
· Analyze inventory levels, usage trends, and variances to support operational and financial decision-making.
· Validate all transactions made/entered into MasterPoint
· Prepare daily and weekly recap of material movements
· Prepare weekly consumption (Shop Floor Report + Compile Monthly Rollforward)
· Prepare a Weekly Price Variance Report for Raw Material. Compare MasterPoint to Sage. Turn over to Controller on the 6th day after month end
· Verify any discrepancies
· Monitor inventory valuation, including standard cost, average cost, and adjustments.
· Identify slow-moving, obsolete, or excess inventory and provide recommendations for mitigation.
· Support cost analysis related to materials, labor, overhead, and production variances.
Financial Reporting & Reconciliation
· Reconcile inventory balances between sub-ledgers and the general ledger.
· Assist with month-end and year-end close related to inventory accounts.
· Prepare inventory-related journal entries and supporting documentation.
· Ensure accuracy of inventory financial reporting in accordance with company policies and GAAP.
Operational Support
· Partner with Purchasing, Production, and Warehouse teams to resolve inventory discrepancies.
· Assist in developing and maintaining inventory controls, policies, and procedures.
· Support cycle counts, physical inventories, and audit activities.
· Analyze inventory turnover, carrying costs, and forecasting data to support business planning.
Process Improvement
· Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
· Support ERP system enhancements, inventory module updates, and reporting tools.
· Develop dashboards and reports for leadership visibility into inventory performance.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (strongly preferred).
· 3–5 years of experience in inventory analysis, cost accounting, or financial analysis (manufacturing environment preferred).
· Strong understanding of inventory accounting principles and cost accounting methods.
· Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, data analysis).
· Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar).
· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work cross-functionally and communicate effectively with both finance and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in the window, door, or building materials industry.
· Advanced Excel or data visualization skills (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
· Experience supporting audits and internal controls.
