The Material Planner reports to the Purchasing Manager, and is responsible for ensuring the continuous supply of materials necessary for the production process. The role involves the meticulous planning and management of material flow to meet production schedules and minimize downtime. Will collaborate closely with purchasing, production and distribution departments to balance supply with demand, optimize inventory levels, and support overall production efficiency. This role is critical in maintaining the seamless operations of the manufacturing process and meeting the company’s production and financial goals.
What Does a Week in the Life of the Material Planner Look Like?
- Develop and implement advanced material planning strategies to support rapid production cycles and meet aggressive timelines.
- Utilize forecasting models and data analysis techniques to anticipate demands, optimize inventory levels, and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Coordinate forecasts with buyers to ensure timely delivery of materials, addressing any issues that may arise.
- Work closely with production and purchasing teams to align material availability with production needs.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with production, procurement, engineering, and logistics teams to synchronize activities and streamline processes.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to monitor material planning performance, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies to inform strategic decision-making and maintain a competitive edge.
- Utilize ERP systems and other tools to track material availability, procurement status, and inventory levels accurately.
- Continuously evaluate and improve material planning processes to enhance efficiency and reliability.
- Continually and consistently monitor and review inventory levels and implement inventory management techniques to support company goals while maintaining increased throughput and decreasing operating expense.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field, 3 years industry experience acceptable in lieu of degree.
- Proven experience in material planning, procurement, or supply chain management within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in ERP/MRP systems and advanced proficiency in Google suites.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Syteline experience, Google Suites
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and experience implementing process improvements is a plus.
