Metallurgical Test Technician

This role is temp to hire, paying $15/hr, with working hours of 2nd Shift (2:00 PM - 10:30 PM)

Responsibilities:

  • Work within the lab performing: sectioning (band saw and abrasive saw), mounting, polishing, microhardness (Vickers and Knoop), Rockwell and Brinell hardness, and several types of microstructural evaluations (ductile iron rating, grain size rating, layer thickness evaluation, inclusion content, carburization/decarburization, etc.).
  • We work with a variety of clients and materials.
  • Prepare samples, schedule and perform tests as instructed.
  • Responsible for adhering to safety procedures and appropriate regulatory and company standards.
  • Ability to learn operation of assigned instrumentation in laboratory in order to provide backup support if needed. Experience in Materials testing, interpreting testing procedures and customer requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Word, Excel)
  • Availability, flexibility, and maturity to represent the company at a broad range of events/projects in the community, with customers and within the company.
  • Ability to remain calm when faced with mounting pressure related to deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills to meet a variety of communication needs. Good interpersonal skills that foster open upward and downward communication built on mutual respect. Exceptional ability to work on a team, and resolve conflict when needed
  • Ability to interface with clients, win new work and determine their requirements; helps develops proposals including cost estimates, work plan and terms and conditions.
  • Experience with process control / improvement.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Four year degree from, or enrolled in chemistry or materials science program at accredited college or university is preferred but is not necessary.
  • Minimum work experience level: Enrolled in chemistry or materials science program at accredited college or university.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills and listening ability to communicate effectively with peers, superiors, customers and vendors.
  • Knowledgeable with respect to the use of personal computers and Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel along with the ability to learn new programs quickly.
